Research on Anti-Racism

Addressing racism in Finland is imperative to foster an inclusive and equitable society. Several academic studies have examined the prevalence and impact of racial discrimination in the country:

(1) “Everyday Racism in Finland: Experiences of Black and Brown People” by Kaarina Nikunen and Antti Kivijärvi (2021): This study explores the daily experiences of racism encountered by Black and Brown individuals in Finland, highlighting systemic issues and the need for comprehensive antiracist policies.

(2) “Racism and Discrimination in the Finnish Labour Market: Evidence from a Field Experiment” by Akhlaq Ahmad (2019): Ahmad’s research involved sending fictitious job applications with varying ethnic names to Finnish employers. The study found significant discrimination against applicants with non-Finnish names, indicating biases in the hiring process.

(3) “The Stigma of Being a Refugee: A Mixed-Method Study of Refugees’ Experiences in Finland” by Annika Forsander (2018): This research examines the stigmatization and discrimination faced by refugees in Finland, focusing on their integration challenges and societal attitudes towards them.
